Wekiwa Springs
Description:
The pool is oval shaped, about 200′ x 100′. The depth is roughly 3-6 feet throughout most of the pool, with only a few deeper areas. The main vent is located along the wall on side of the pool closest to the parking lot. Water flows from a crevice between 5 and 15 feet deep. This vent is easily the strongest flow of water I’ve felt of any spring I’ve visited. It’s really hard to fight the force of the water, but also pretty fun!
Water flowing from Wekiwa Spring forms a run that meets Rock Springs Run in less than a mile.
Wekiwa Springs is a popular spring, in part because of the lack of springs in the Orlando area. Blue Spring and Rock Spring are the only other Orlando area springs, and there really aren’t any south of here.
The spring would be nice to see without the crowd. Better yet, before it was developed into what it is today. The pool is surrounded by concrete walls on all sides, with steps leading into the water. It’s very touristy, not the same feel as the small town springs in North Central Florida. The Red Bulls girls were out here giving out free Red Bulls when I visited! Still, it’s a cool place to hang out and so close to Orlando. It’s better than driving to the coast to go to the beach!
