Rock Springs
Description:
Rocks Spring is located within Kelly Park in Apopka, Fl. This small park is right next to the larger park Wekiva Springs. Don’t let it’s small size fool you though, this place is VERY popular! You need to be there before mid morning on the weekends in order to get in the park. They reach capacity rather quickly and will not let you enter once full.
Your first view of the water is the main swimming area, which is more for wading than anything else. To your left is a shallow run that makes for decent snorkeling. Follow this for a few hundred yards before a bridge over the water marks the stopping point, no swimming beyond that. Either swim/snorkel/wade your way back, or get out and take the boardwalk back. From the main swimming area, go right to find Rock Spring. It’s about 3/4 miles up a shallow, jagged rock run that is best traversed with water shoes.
The spring itself is pretty stunning. It has a large cave opening from which water emits, but the cave opening itself is roped off. The water here is the deepest in the park, maybe 8 feet or so.
Rock Spring is a really cool place to explore. Get here early and use Wekiva Springs as your backup!
