Hey,
I am trying to download the GPX file for the Linville Gorge Loop you took as I plan on hiking that this June. The site will not let me download the file. Can you please email this to me? Also, I”m trying to figure out where you started and cannot find any good maps to help me out. At first glance of the mapped route, it looks like you started at the northern end but judging from what you wrote up about the hike, it appears that you started on the SE portion of the loop? Please advise.
Thank you,
Jaron VanOrd

Hi Jaron,
Check your email… sent you the GPX file of my route as well as the linville gorge “master” gpx file with waypoints of all the campsites, etc. My gpx file is simply the route I hiked. You can overlay that route on the linville master file and have my route with all of the waypoints of where important things are.
The start and end point was at Spence Ridge trailhead. I couldn’t find any maps of the area either… my gps got me close and we made a few wrong turns before finally finding it. We lost all sense of direction in the winding roads and dense fog, so maybe on a clear day it would have been easier to find. I can’t recall much else about it’s location, but I’m sure the guys over at the linvillegorge.net forum would be able to give you more precise directions.
We did start on the northern end on the east side but not the most northerly point. Spence Ridge TH is approx 70% “up” from the northern end of our intended hike and the MST river crossing point in the south. We reached or northerly terminus on Sitting Bear Mtn, and turned around on the morning of day 2 and headed south. We were going to cross at Devil’s Hole, but had to backtrack all the way back to our starting point at Spence Ridge in order to cross at the ridge do to high water in the river. Hopefully that clears that up.
Let me know if you need anything else. Have a good hike!

Hi,
I want to take my son to the Manistee river. Do you have a GPX file for that trail?
Thanks,
Matt

Just emailed it to you! I’ll post it up here once I get a trip report posted for the Manistee River Loop. Going again myself in a few weeks, this will be my 4th time there. And still, no trip report! Shame on me.

Nice trip report. Very helpful as I am planning on trekking the loop in July (2017). Thanks!!

Curious if I can get the Lander to Dubois Wind River Range Alternate, gpx files, you created shown in episode 20 … you said its 450 miles long. I’d really like to look at the route to consider for my CDT attempt next year. The CDT is what you make of it, right? Absolutely love the views allow this route, so epic.
I’ve watched your videos over and over. Shared them with multiple family members. Love it. Thanks for documenting your adventures.
Thanks!

First off, thank you so much for watching and thinking highly enough of the videos to share them. So cool to hear! I didn’t create a separate GPX file for just the alternate route, although I should do a write up on that whole section. I’ve got lots of things I want to be doing but still editing all those videos for a few more weeks. Getting there!
I did post a GPX file for the entire hike here: http://seekinglost.com/hikes-other-adventures/cdt-thru-hike-2018/
It’s in the middle of the page, below the big emdeded caltopo map. Or direct download from here: http://seekinglost.com/wp-content/uploads/gpx/CDT_Complete.gpx
I should probably add that to this page too ๐
You can download the entire CDT GPX file then just cut out the alternate route between Hwy 28 (near Atlantic City, WY) and Old Faithful. But As you will see in the next video, there is a section you need to avoid, it’s private land. The route I took to resupply in Dubois, instead of hitching out of Green River Lakes to Pinedale, is far from efficient or direct. There are a couple other options that I can suggest to reroute around that private land if you’re hellbent on going into Dubois. Have a look at the GPX file and let me know if you need any help coming up with a route through the northern Winds section, to either Dubois or Green River Lakes.

Do you have plans to upload a GPX file of your “Ultimate Wind River Range High Route” / “Teton Alternate”? These are beautiful routes that I’d love to explore someday.
Thanks for all of your info so far!

Is your 450 mile Wind River Range alternate for the CDT in a gpx file? If not, can I get it?
Thanks
