Camelbak Capo Hydration Pack
I purchased this Camelbak Capo because I wanted to have enough storage space to carry a few small items in addition to a hydration bladder. Specifically, I purchased this to take on my hike in the Gila Wilderness of New Mexico. I planned a day of exploring canyons near our base camp, and I wanted to have the convenience of a hydration bladder, but needed to be able to carry some food, long sleeve jacket, dslr camera, map, first aid kit, etc. The day hike basics. I was drawn to the Capo because they claim it only weighs 13.4oz. Another site said 1.65 pounds. My digital scale read 1 pound 15oz, so I was disappointed with the extra weight.
I didn’t use it with the Camelbak hydration bladder that came with it for two reasons. First, the water always tastes like plastic out of the Camelbak brand bladders, and second, I like my Osprey bladder better and that fits fine in the Capo. There’s a little clip for your bite valve on the shoulder strap to keep it in place, and this works with either bladder.
Storage wise, this pack can carry more than you’d think.Ā There are a lot of different sized compartments on the Capo which I really like. All of the straps on the pack can be rolled up and have a velcro strip at the end. This takes care of loose straps and keeps them out of your way. Not a big deal for hikers, but I think it’s designed more for bikers so I’m sure that’s more useful to them.
The pack is comfortable to wear and would be plenty large enough for many day hikers.
